Red Sox have reportedly been in contact with top pitching free agent

The Boston Red Sox are uncovering every rock this offseason, as they look to improve their starting rotation for the 2025 MLB season.

Boston's rotation was actually solid last year, despite Lucas Giolito missing the entire 2024 season after elbow surgery and Garrett Whitlock missing most of the year with the same thing.

Still, the Red Sox need to add more this offseason, and one name that Boston is reportedly looking at is Cleveland Guardians free agent starter Shane Bieber, according to MLB insider Robert Murray.

"Bieber's going to end up having a pretty strong market. We could see the Red Sox being in play there as well," Murray said on an episode of "The Baseball Insiders" podcast. "I know they've had some conversations with Bieber's representation. We'll see there, but Bieber does have a good market so far."

The 29-year-old former Cy Young winner has been one of the best pitchers in baseball when healthy, posting a career 3.22 ERA, 1.115 WHIP and 10.2 K/9 over seven seasons.

However, Bieber made just two starts in 2024 before suffering an elbow injury of his own that required Tommy John surgery. With that, he'll likely miss a chunk of the 2025 season before he returns, but Boston could get him in for less than he'd cost if he were healthy.
