Manchester United prospect linked with move to Barcelona

Earlier in the week, the footballing world was given quite the shocking story when the news broke that Manchester United academy prospect, JJ Gabriel, had requested a contract termination with the English side.

While the reason for Gabriel's requested departure are not known at this point in time, it hasn't taken long for some of the other clubs across Europe to take note and offer a new home for the 15-year-old, with one club in Spain making significant progress on making it happen.

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona have met with the 15-year-old and his representatives in recent days to try to get a move to materialize. It makes sense for the Catalan club, given that Gabriel is quite the player at such a young age and their academy's long-studied track record of producing some of the world's brightest talents.

As stated previously, this interest isn't just held by Barcelona, as their rivals Real Madrid also harbor some, as do the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. The latter three also have quite prestigious academies that constantly churn out some serious gems for the world to see.

One thing is clear, though: whoever lands Gabriel, if he is to move away from the Red Devils, they're getting quite the productive player, as in 29 appearances throughout different youth-level competitions last season, he put up 26 goals and four assists.

For now, only time will tell what the 15-year-old's future holds for him.
