Man City's first summer transfer blocked by Serie A giants

Manchester City’s first major summer move has hit a wall as AC Milan have reportedly rejected the former Premier League champions opening €60m [$66.9m] bid for midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

The Dutch international, who joined Milan in 2023 from AZ Alkmaar, is the subject of intense interest from City following a superb season at the San Siro.

The 26-year-old has emerged as a standout performer in Serie A, clocking up 2,952 minutes split across 35 appearances in 2024/25

He's registered four assists and averaged 1.3 key passes per game, with a pass success rate of 89.1%, as per WhoScored.

In the UEFA Champions League, the Dutch international has featured in 10 matches, maintaining an incredible 92.6% pass accuracy rate with an average of 1.1 key passes.

With Kevin De Bruyne on course to leave City at the end of his contract in June, Reijnders has been identified as a long-term successor, but a move will not be easy.

Reijnders also ranks in the top 5% of midfielders for non-penalty goals, shot, and progressive carries per 90 minutes this season.

As per Teamtalk, AC Milan remain firm over their valuation of €90m [$100.4m] and have no intention to negotiate below that mark. Reijnders’ contract, which runs until 2030, only strengthens their stance.

Sources clos to the deal have indicated the latest revised City bid is around €70m [78.1M], but is has fallen short.

While the player is not pushing for a move, AC Milan are aware of City’s sustained interest, and remain in communication with the English club.
