NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani joins the ground breaking ceremony for the Timbale Terrace.

News that Mayor Zohran Mamdani has hired Bitta Mostofi, a Biden and de Blasio alumna, to “audit” the NYPD and other city agencies for violations of local sanctuary laws comes amid a larger lefty push to prevent any cooperation with ICE because progressives want “Minneapolis everywhere.”
Anti-ICE protests across the country are turning into dangerous street theater where agitators stage in-your-face confrontations with federal law enforcement in hopes of videos that will shock the public — with actual bloodshed even better.
The left is already planning to take its ICE resistance act into red states — like Florida, Tennessee and Texas — where local police and sheriffs work with ICE to bloodlessly detain known illegal-immigrant criminals.
Appointing Mostofi (who in the de Blasio years lobbied to ban the terms “illegal immigrant” and “alien” and urged New Yorkers to resist federal authorities) as “sanctuary commissar” foreshadows a doubling down on activist anti-ICE policies emanating from City Hall.
Mamdani has already foolishly repealed an Adams-era executive order that let the feds monitor Tren de Aragua and other gangs inside the Rikers Island jails.
Politico reports that Commissar Mostofi will invent new, more severe penalties for city workers who flout “sanctuary” mandates.
This comes on the heels of Mamdani tapping Faiza Ali — a Palestinian activist with ties to the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations and notorious anti-Israel activist Linda Sarsour — as the city’s new chief immigration officer.

Nor is the mayor out on a limb here: Gov. Kathy Hochul wants to ban any cooperation with ICE by local law enforcement.
From “youth-led” walkouts and teachers donning black for solidarity marches in New York City to a “general strike” in Minneapolis, the left is using anti-ICE fervor to bend the Democratic Party to its will.
“Moderates” like Hochul play along because they figure it’ll help them this November; it seems they don’t care what longterm damage it does to the Democratic brand, nor to the nation.
