Former Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez has provided a response to claims that Kylian Mbappe does not have the winning character of Cristiano Ronaldo. The France international is in his second season at the Bernabeu, having moved there from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2024.

Now with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, Vazquez was asked about the winning mentality of Kylian Mbappe in a chat with Diario Ole. The Spaniard pointed out that the forward was a winner before he joined the club, and that he has no limitations, particularly when combined with Vinicius Jr.

“Kylian has the footballing and mental ability to do anything. Only he can set his own limits. Hopefully we can enjoy him for many years to come. I think he spent many years in Paris, at home, and all changes were difficult. Last season, which was his first, was tough... but he won the Golden Boot. That’s something to highlight. He’s at a much higher level, not just in terms of goals, but also in his overall play. And the whole team should benefit from that. Vini is an impressive player. Someone who has had a very successful career at Real Madrid for many years. Together, I think they can do great things for our club", he said (via @MadridXtra).

Kylian Mbappe led Europe's goalscoring charts in the 2024-25 season, his first with Los Blancos, to win the European Golden Shoe for the first time. He scored 59 goals for the Spanish giants in the entirety of 2025, matching a club record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013.

Mbappe had tasted significant success in his career before moving to Madrid, having led France to FIFA World Cup glory as a teenager in 2018. He also netted eight times for Les Bleus as they finished as runners-up in the last edition of the Mundial in 2022.

Kylian Mbappe bettered Cristiano Ronaldo's start at Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's start to life at Real Madrid in his debut campaign with the club. The 27-year-old France international won the European Golden Shoe and Pichichi after netting 31 times in LaLiga in the 2024-25 season.

Mbappe ended the season with 42 goals, nine more than Cristiano Ronaldo managed in his first season at the Bernabeu. The Frenchman has wasted no time to get acquainted to scoring for the club, with his tally of 59 goals in his first full year.
