The portion of the NFL offseason in between the Super Bowl and the onset of free agency is the perfect time for predictions.
During this brief annual period, fans everywhere are optimistic and excited about what kind of additions their team will make over the offseason. Here’s a prediction that Los Angeles Chargers fans will likely – or maybe not.
Chargers predicted to sign Brandon Aiyuk over the offseason
In an article entitled “10 crazy 2026 NFL offseason predictions,” Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports suggested that the Chargers could land former All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in free agency to provide quarterback Justin Herbert with another weapon on the outside.
Aiyuk, who missed the entirety of the 2025 season and more than half of the ’24 campaign due to a serious knee injury, is expected to be released by the San Francisco 49ers after falling out with the team.
“The Los Angeles Chargers are undergoing a change in offensive philosophy in swapping Greg Roman for Mike McDaniel at coordinator. It's clear that the Chargers need to upgrade the depth on the offensive line, but they could be in the market for a new weapon, too,” Dajani wrote.
“Following his release from the San Francisco 49ers, Aiyuk will sign with the Chargers to help Justin Herbert reach that next level. Aiyuk turns 28 in March, and missed all of last season as he recovered from the torn ACL suffered in October 2024. … In L.A., Aiyuk finds an offense ready to take off.”
Given the way things transpired in San Francisco combined with his recent injury history, Aiyuk will be a bit of a risk for any team that signs him.
However, he’s still just 27 years old. So in theory, he should still have a lot of good football in front of him.
