Look at how Yankees' Cam Schlitterer compares to Tarik Skubal

It's not the biggest sample size, but it's not nothing, and it's worth taking a look at: Since Cam Schlittler arrived in the major leagues, he's put up stats a lot like Tarik Skubal.

Schlittler is just a young New York Yankees pitcher. Skubal is the back-to-back AL Cy Young winner. So that's quite the comparison.

But to start this season, Schlittler picked up where he left off in last postseason. He went 5.1 scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants.

And so you've got to see these stats aligned with Skubal since August 2025:

Since August 2025, Cam Schlittler has been one of the best pitchers in the entire sport.

Schlittler's stats just by themselves are impressive. Aligned alongside Skubal makes it even more of an eye-catching setup.

FIP is Fielding Independent Pitching, which essentially uses strikeout, walk and home run numbers to create an ERA-equivalent number -- so the fact that Schlittler's FIP in that stretch is better than Skubal's is fantastic.

All told, the numbers look quite similar. And that's highly encouraging for the Yankees.

Schlittler still will have to prove he can do this over the course of an entire MLB season. But right now, the Yankees' righty is worthy of all the hype he's getting.
