In an October 2025 interview with GRAMMY.com, Lorde opened up about her latest album, Virgin. The album was released in June this year. Speaking while on the Ultrasound Arena World Tour, she shared details about how she began recording the album and what inspired her.

"I felt very unsettled and unhappy before I made Virgin. That's why I made it, to try and ease these parts of me. I only write an album because I'm working through something big and private that I can't do without the help of my art. It sounds so goofy, but it's fully true for me," she said.

She added:

"It was definitely a very raw, open couple years. My body was going through a lot of changes, and I was having to really accept my physical vulnerability and not rush past that. And now that it's out, it's given me some peace, majorly."

Speaking about her inspirations, she revealed that during the making of Virgin, she was reading a lot, including the works of Annie Ernaux, Rachel Cusk, Ben Lerner and Elizabeth Hardwick. This helped her "push herself lyrically" and after working on this album, she felt more in her age.

"The cool thing about pop music is the inbuilt collective nature of what you're doing. I never lose sight of the fact that this is a medium for a lot of people. So for me, when I'm having the feeling that I know is so specific but so universal — of taking a pregnancy test and all these thoughts and feelings flooding my mind in the two minutes it takes to process — how come I don't have a piece of art that is about this feeling?," she said.

The singer also spoke about some of the music references she grew up with, naming Drake. For Virgin, she worked with Jim-E-Stack, with whom she connected over "a surprising amount of Drake." Moreover, she also named 2Hollis and Dijon's music as stuff she listens to when she wants to make more music. The former will be headlining the 2026 All Points East Festival with her.

Lorde's Virgin is available on all streaming platforms. To promote the same, the singer is still on the Ultrasound World Tour, which is set to conclude in May 2026.
