Matt Fitzpatrick’s win at the 2025 DP World Tour Championship came with a special moment off the course as his wife, Katherine Gaal, shared a heartfelt message celebrating his victory. The title was his third at the season finale and his first global win since October 2023.

Katherine Gaal, who married Fitzpatrick in October 2024 was at Jumeirah Golf Estates to watch him lift the trophy. On Monday, November 17 she posted photos from the celebration on Instagram along with a message for her husband. She wrote,

“Hat-Trick 🎩🏆!! Epic end to the 2025 season!! Congrats hubs on winning your 3rd DP World Tour Championship in Dubai !! @mattfitz94 @dpwtc“

Matt Fitzpatrick won in a one-hole playoff against Rory McIlroy, only the second playoff in the event’s history. He shot a bogey-free 66 on Sunday to finish 18 under after rounds of 69-69-66 and took home $3 million in prize money.

Even though they competed fiercely on the final day, Fitzpatrick and McIlroy are close friends. Fitzpatrick later spoke about how much he respects him.

Matt Fitzpatrick praises McIlroy after playoff finish

After his win, Matt Fitzpatrick spoke about how much he respects Rory McIlroy, especially after their playoff showdown. The two have shared several big events this year. They played together at The Open in July and were also partners at the 2025 Ryder Cup in September helping Europe lift the trophy.

Fitzpatrick said playing against the World No. 2 is always challenging because of the pressure he creates.

"He (McIlroy) is one of only a few where you know you are going to a play-off. You are two clear with one to play and you know you are going to a play-off because he did it again in typical Rory fashion,” Fitzpatrick said.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy admitted he was disappointed to miss out on his fourth DP World Championship win, but he made sure to praise Fitzpatrick for his strong form to close out the season.

"He's had a great end to the season. Played great to get on the Ryder Cup team, and then he's sort of kept it going since. So really happy for him as well,” McIlroy said.

The win gives Matt Fitzpatrick his third DP World Tour Championship title and the 11th professional victory of his career. He is currently ranked No. 30 in the official world golf ranking and finished 34th in the 2025 FedExCup standings.
