Liverpool vs. Ipswich Town lineups, expected starting 11, confirmed team news, injuries: Nunez to take over for Jota

4 hours ago 1

Still holding a strong position atop the Premier League table, Liverpool look to maintain their gap in the title race as they host relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The Reds sit six points clear at the summit of the standings, with a game in hand over second-place Arsenal as well.

Liverpool suffered a few slips in the last month, including a draw with top-four challengers Nottingham Forest, but those below were unable to close the gap, and Arne Slot's team have seemingly recaptured their form in the aftermath.

Ipswich, meanwhile, sit 18th in the table, occupying the final relegation spot on 16 points. They are only below 17th-placed Wolves on goal differential, indicating that every point the rest of the way will be valuable in the hunt to avoid relegation.

The Sporting News runs through the latest team news and injury updates for both sides as the match draws nearer.

Liverpool have enjoyed a good record in terms of injuries this season, but one player who's struggled for fitness is Diogo Jota, who only recently returned from injury ago but has gone down again for a few weeks with another muscle injury. Slot said Darwin Nunez would take Jota's place in the depth chart.

The only other player working his way back from injury is Joe Gomez, who is recovering from a hamstring issue.

Another question for Slot is who to start at left-back, with Kostas Tsimikas performing well while Andy Robertson has been struggling for form.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Alisson (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Tsimikas — Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister — Salah, Nunez, Gakpo

Injured: Jota (muscle), Gomez (hamstring)
Suspended: None

It will be interesting to see whether Kieran McKenna will make any changes after being slaughtered by Man City by a 6-0 scoreline last time out. Axel Tuanzebe could be pushing for a spot at the back, while Arijanet Muric might be looking to reclaim his place in goal after four matches on the bench.

They are without Chiedozie Ogbene, who is out for the season with an Achilles tear, while Sammie Szmodics will miss out thanks to an ankle problem. Conor Chaplin will also need a few more weeks to make his way back from a knee injury.

Midfielder Kalvin Phillips is ineligible to face his parent club.

Ipswich Town predicted lineup (5-4-1, right to left): Muric (GK) — Johnson, Godfrey, O'Shea, Burgess, Davis — Hutchinson, Morsy, Cajuste, Clarke — Delap

Injured: Ogbene (Achilles), Szmodics (ankle), Chaplin (knee)
Suspended: None
Unavailable: Phillips
