Liverpool’s season is starting to feel like a broken record — and not the kind that tops the charts. After a fourth straight Premier League defeat, questions are growing louder about Arne Slot’s future at Anfield.
The 3–2 loss to Brentford has left fans restless, critics circling, and club legend Jamie Carragher calling it what it is — a crisis.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher didn’t mince his words. “Losing four games in a row for Brentford would be a disaster. To see the champions do it with the expenditure in the summer means we’re in crisis time,” he said.
Liverpool spent over £400 million in the transfer window, but the results haven’t matched the investment. The Reds sit seventh in the table with 15 points from nine games — already seven behind leaders Arsenal.
Carragher pointed to one big issue: Liverpool’s lack of physical presence.
“Liverpool have to look at the physicality and height within their team because, right now, I don’t think they have enough,” he added.

Is Arne Slot’s Liverpool losing its shape?

The Dutch manager has tried to bring a more technical, possession-heavy style — reportedly inspired by PSG.
But in the Premier League, pretty passes don’t always win bruising battles. Opponents have clearly noticed, targeting Liverpool’s full-backs and using long balls to exploit their gaps.
Even Gary Neville joined the debate, comparing Slot’s side to the chaotic Manchester United teams he once played in.
“Arne Slot’s Liverpool remind me a bit of my old Man Utd team… they always looked capable of scoring, but they were all over the place,”
Neville said on his podcast. He warned that the Reds must “narrow that back four and be more safe in the way they play.”
Slot has yet to settle on his best starting XI, and his team’s defending from set pieces has become a weekly headache.
With fixtures against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Real Madrid, and Manchester City on the horizon, the road ahead doesn’t get any easier.
For now, the message from Anfield seems to be patience. But if the slump continues, Slot may soon find himself walking alone in more ways than one.
