Lions called out for ignoring key position that could cost them

The Detroit Lions are out to prove their Super Bowl window hasn't closed. But, the only way to do that is to simply win games. They didn't do that enough last season.

The Lions, who were championship favorites last season, finished last in the NFC North. It was a brutal way to end a very hopeful year.

So, now, Dan Campbell and company are hoping this year is a total 180. Still, Campbell and the team are being warned about a roster hole that could come back to bite them.

Detroit Lions have a hole at a surprising position

It may be surprising, but the Lions still have a hole in the running back position. In a feature for CBS Sports out on Thursday, Josh Edwards elaborates on why the Lions need more support here.

"Running back and cornerback were both positions that require attention as Detroit is inching toward roster cutdown day," he says. "There is no NFL production behind Jahmyr Gibbs and Isiah Pacheco."

So, Gibbs is absolutely electric on the field. Pacheco is solid, too. But, who's behind them?

"The Lions' secondary is littered with slot-type defenders, but lacks those capable of occupying the boundary at a serviceable level," he adds in the piece. "The Terrion Arnold development was unforeseen and disappointing, but the team should have already been considering additions."

So, the team wasn't very forward-thinking on this running back issue. It's something Brad Holmes should have gotten a handle on, but he hasn't, at least yet.
