Lions begged for a chance by Arena Football League star with sign outside Detroit facility

Freddie McGee III doesn't have an agent. He last played college football in 2021.

And despite, or maybe because of, both those facts, he's putting his own two feet forward to try and earn a chance in the NFL, potentially with the Detroit Lions.

McGee was outside the Lions' facility with a sign on Monday to try to garner attention.

Former EMU DB Freddie McGee III arrived outside of the #Lions facility around 8:45 a.m. with this sign and is hopeful for an NFL shot. He doesn't have an agent, but says he's in the best shape of his life. "God put it on my heart. I’ve had this goal since I was 5," he told ESPN. pic.twitter.com/uVCm7y8TyG

On the sign, you can see some of McGee's Arena Football League stats. He was a major defensive playmaker in the AFL.

In his college career at Eastern Michigan, he totaled just one career interception across five seasons to go along with 10 passes defensed.

Players develop at different rates, though, and maybe McGee was just a late bloomer.

He's not just seeking to sign with the Lions. That just happens to be where he is and where he felt he could gain some attention.

Surely, McGee would take a chance with any NFL team that will listen.

Football coaches often respect players willing to go the extra mile. There certainly may be a few guys who watch McGee's film on Monday to see if there's anything there to be pursued.

Whether or not McGee gets a contract, he can rest a little easier knowing that he put himself out there and tried to make his dream a reality.
