The New York Yankees have reportedly officially tendered Anthony Volpe, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder to repair a partially torn labrum. Because of this, his status for the 2026 season is in doubt.

Nonetheless, now that the Yankees have tendered him, it means Volpe will receive a contract from the Yankees. The shortstop is arbitration-eligible and is expected to receive a raise, despite a down 2025 season.

The news was shared by SNY Yankees, and it paved the way for different types of reactions from fans.

"He’s got pictures of Cashman," one fan joked. "Like Chicken Tendered??? As in he’s serving up 6 pieces in Mickey D’s right?" another joked as well. "is that like tenderizing a steak? But for a baseball player?" one fan added. "Can someone explain this in culinary Chef terms???" one fan wrote.

The feelings were pretty clear in the comments section by a section of fans who want Volpe out of the Yankees.

"GET OUT! Make him a free agent" one fan commented. "The Volpe chokehold on the organization continues man," one man reacted.

Yankees played Anthony Volpe through injury

Anthony Volpe didn't have a positive impact on the Yankees in 2025. In the wake of the frustration of fans with him, a new report states that the Yankees knew that Volpe had an injury and despite that, they played him.

Manager Aaron Boone also confirmed that Boone first felt a "pop" in his left shoulder during a defensive play on May 3. However, the team was of the mindset that it was an old injury and that the shortstop could play with it.

"Obviously he had the incident in May where he dove and hurt his shoulder a little bit but felt it," Boone said in September. "At that time, we MRI-ed it, he had a partial labrum tear that I think they felt like was an old injury, but really more just aggravating it and the swelling of it. Once that got out of there, he was good to go."

However, in the offseason, he finally had to undergo a procedure to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder. Team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad performed the procedure, and it was found that the injury was more serious than it initially appeared.
