LeBron James retirement plans get unexpected update from Lakers teammate

LeBron James and the possibility of retirement have been a popular topic this offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar is 40 years old, after all. He’s set all sorts of NBA records. He could ride off into the sunset anytime as one of the couple best players in the history of basketball.

Or, if he wants, it sometimes feels like The King could play forever.

That’s what his Lakers teammate Dalton Knecht thinks.

“He said he can play another five, ten years,” Knecht told TMZ Sports. “So me and ‘Bron could run it for another five, ten years. Why not?”

Could you imagine if LeBron stuck around until he was 50, just because? Somehow out there playing with a veteran Bronny James, father and son united for a decade in the association?

Sure, it’s incredibly unlikely.

But James is the guy that has proven he can outlast all conventions about longevity. In that way, he’s a bit like the Tom Brady of the NBA.

He just averaged 24/8/8 in the season he turned 40 years old.

Who else does that? We all know the answer: nobody.

It sure seems like if James wanted, he could stick around as a playmaking forward in a lower-usage role for a bunch more years.

Maybe a serious injury could alter that, but otherwise, the only thing that will make LeBron need to retire is his own choice of when to do so.

Otherwise, sure, he could continue running things just like he has his whole NBA career.
