Latest NFL trade projection lands Buffalo Bills All-Pro NFC defender

5 hours ago 1

The Buffalo Bills will begin training camp in less than a month, and the vast majority of the meat and potatoes of their roster is assembled. Through the draft and free agency, the Bills added multiple new players, and it feels unlikely that any huge move will take place before Week 1. However, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report suggests a trade that will land the Bills an All-Pro defensive playmaker in the form of Tyrann Mathieu.

"Tyrann Mathieu is a New Orleans native and wants to play in his hometown," Sobleski writes. "However, a trade to a perennial Super Bowl contender should be enough to get him on board, even if it's in Buffalo. The Bills can use the three-time first-team All-Pro all over the field as a defensive chess piece. At 33, he's still a better safety than Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin. Buffalo needs the type of players who can push the team over the top. Mathieu can be one of those individuals."

Sobleski is right when he says the Bills should do all they can do load up on difference-makers that can push them over the top. Considering how cheap Mathieu is, as well ($6 million cap hit in 2025), it makes sense for the Bills to pursue him.

Mathieu helped the Kansas City Chiefs win their first Super Bowl of the Patrick Mahomes era in the 2019 season. He is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a member of the 2010s All-Decade Team.
