Episodes 1–2 of Last Summer dropped on November 1–2 on Viki worldwide, with Viu carrying the show in select regions. In Korea, the drama airs on KBS2 at 9:20 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Episodes 3-4 are set to arrive the following weekend, on November 8–9.
The plot centers on twins Baek Do-ha and Baek Do-yeong (Lee Jae-wook), split after their parents’ divorce and raised apart. Do-ha grew up in the United States; meanwhile, Do-yeong stayed in South Korea. Each summer, Do-ha returns for 21 days and stays in a duplex with his father and brother.
Their longtime neighbor, Choi Sung-eun's Song Ha-gyeong (whose father is close friends with the twins’ dad), spent those summers trading barbs with Do-ha and quietly falling for him. As adults, Do-ha is a gifted architect, and Ha-gyeong works as an architectural public official. A pivotal incident two years ago irreversibly alters their lives and drives the current conflict.
What’s ahead in episodes 3-4 of Last Summer?
In episode 3 of Last Summer, Do-ha lays the groundwork for his next move. At the same time, Ha-gyeong’s company begins converting an old school into an observatory, and Do-ha joins the architectural team working on the project. Working side-by-side pulls their history back.
Flashbacks depict their earlier years, including their hesitant exchanges, developing emotions, and a kiss. They were told that confessing under the Summer Triangle on July 7th would guarantee a lasting relationship. However, the reality did not honor it. In the present, they keep insisting on distance while acting opposite.
Each time they’re around each other, signs of concern continue to appear despite the emotional distance they maintain. They remain closely involved in each other’s lives, without completely separating from their past.
Last Summer episode 1-2 recap
Lee Jae-wook and Choi Sung-eun in Last Summer (Image via Viki)Last Summer starts with Ha-gyeong, an architectural public official from Patan, who is trying to sell her old “Peanut House” house. The sale is nearly done until she finds the co-ownership switched from Gi-ho (Do-ha’s father) to him, which turns the closing into a legal and personal snag.
Patan is presented as the town that changed her. She once lived next to Do-ha’s neighbor. However, their relationship soured after someone close to them died. Because the two share a past (which is not yet clear), she refuses to talk to Do-ha at first. Not wanting to lose the buyers, she fires sharp messages at him. He replies by sending his lawyer, Seo Soo-hyeok.
That doesn’t settle things as she threatens to sell his belongings, and demands what she calls “child support” for her dog, Su-bak. Do-ha shows up at night, refusing to sell the house. He also opposes her wall-demolition project she is currently leading. After several residents pull out, fearing floods, Ha-gyeong tries to prove her expertise by knocking down the wall of her own Peanut House.
This results in accidental damage to the childhood wall she once painted with Do-ha. He steps in to help, but remains firm that there will be no sale under any circumstances. Late that night, he asks whether she still hates him. The episode ends with the question still hanging between them.
Episode two of Last Summer continues with Ha-gyeong and Do-ha’s cold split shows up again in the park. The next day, Ha-gyeong questions the lawyer outside the court. She asks why he bothered with the small Peanut House case. He gives no real reason and just says it’s fun. Later, in a document, Ha-gyeong explains she handled the house for two years and believes she deserves more since Do-ha ignored his duties.
Do-ha fires back that Su-bak’s child support was meant for maintenance and repairs. The two argue, and he vows not to let her win. Meanwhile, I-sul’s grandfather sets up a blind date for her, but she tells him she likes Seung-taek. Her grandfather disapproves, yet she stands by her choice.
After I-sul reveals Ha-gyeong’s two-year insomnia, Ha-gyeong and Do-ha visit Jong-man plant to help her sleep. Her ex, Jeon Nam-jin, later shows up at Ha-gyeong’s door. However, Do-ha knocks him down, filing a complaint at the police station. Back home, the two fight again. Ha-gyeong grabs her pet and leaves. She goes to I-sul’s place, but a sudden flood sends water into her house’s bunker.
Ha-gyeong dives in to rescue a box she wants to save, almost drowns, and is pulled out by Do-ha. The box holds their childhood photos and keepsakes, which unlock painful memories. The Last Summer episode ends with Ha-gyeong asking Do-ha to stop seeing each other and pledging not to sell the house. The episode closes with Do-ha admitting it.
In other news, Nielsen Korea recorded a 2.7 percent nationwide average for Last Summer's premiere.
