Lamar Jackson's cryptic message could be bad news for Ravens extension

6 hours ago 1

After his rookie deal expired at the end of the 2022 NFL season, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and the team agreed to a five-year extension worth $260 million with $185 million guaranteed in April 2023.

Over the last two years, Jackson has completed 66.9% of his passes for 7,850 yards, 65 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while rushing for another 1,736 yards and nine scores. He's also earned All-Pro honors and Pro Bowl honors twice and won his second NFL MVP Award.

Since signing his deal, Jackson has watched Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff and Josh Allen ink contracts that pay them more than Jackson annually. Interestingly, Allen is the only other quarterback from that group who has won an MVP.

With that, Jackson is looking for a new contract, and head coach John Harbaugh has already acknowledged that the team has had conversations about the quarterback's current deal.

However, Jackson's post on his Instagram story over the weekend has everyone questioning if it's about the negotiations.

"Once I show my love they show me why they don't deserve it, right then soon as I put my guard down that's when they hurt me," Jackson wrote with a photo from a youth football camp.

Jackson is set to make $43.5 million in 2025, which is the eighth-most in the NFL behind Herbert, Allen, Tagovailoa, Patrick Mahomes, Prescott, Deshaun Watson and Matthew Stafford.

While Jackson has yet to get the Ravens over the hump and into a Super Bowl, he's clearly one of the best quarterbacks in the game today, and if they were to move on from him, they'd have a very difficult time finding someone better.

In all likelihood, the post had nothing to do with the franchise, but in today's world, everything posted on social media is dissected and nitpicked endlessly. And, even if it was about the Ravens, we'd never know because the quarterback would never say that flat out.
