Interest reportedly remains for the Los Angeles Lakers regarding Jonathan Kuminga.
However, until the Lakers eventually find a deal with Kuminga, one that would bring him to Los Angeles for at least a few seasons, it'll be smart for the organization to continue looking at other avenues to improve.
Right now, the Lakers need a wing as badly as any team in the NBA, though there aren't necessarily a ton of elite ones out there unless they go to the trade market.
At the same time, considering the Lakers don't have many assets and not a lot of money, it might be better to go on the free agency market and look for a cheaper option, which was recently floated by signing Ochai Agbaji, a 26-year-old who was with the Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, and most recently, the Brooklyn Nets.
“Lastly, there’s Ochai Agbaji, who played with Williams on the Nets last season. He’s bounced around the league a bit during his four-year career, playing for the Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn. Much like Brown, he’s on the shorter side and is more of a guard, but he can defend and doesn’t need the ball to make an impact.
“Agbaji was having a solid 2025-26 campaign before getting traded to the Nets, as he was averaging career-high numbers across the board, with 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 steals per game, while shooting 49.8 percent from the floor and 39.9 percent from beyond the arc,” Ryan Ward wrote.
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me why Agbaji isn't finding a team that wants him.
Perhaps he's looking for the perfect opportunity, but there should be a squad out there that's looking to sign him. He's genuinely a pretty decent player, though his lack of a three-point shot at times can be a tad concerning for a Lakers team that wants to hit open shots.
