Lakers have perfect target that no one is talking about

There are some intriguing options in free agency for the Los Angeles Lakers to pursue throughout the remainder of the offseason.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that while most elite free agents have signed, at least the top ones, there are still some okay players out there who can help teams.

Right now, the Lakers have an okay roster, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that they're anything more than that. In fact, many believe that the Lakers' roster is still below average, so adding players who can help them on both sides of the basketball should be a priority.

Defensively speaking, that's where things really get interesting for the Lakers.

Multiple available players should be able to help Los Angeles, including Matisse Thybulle, who has recently been floated as a potential option by Sports Illustrated.

“One of the most intriguing Kuminga fallback options is the defensive-minded Matisse Thybulle. Of course, Thybulle comes with injury concerns, as he’s played in only 45 regular-season games over the past two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.

“However, when healthy, the 29-year-old wing can be a game-changer defensively. He’s easily the best defender on this list of options for the Lakers, but not much of an offensive threat with a career average of 5.0 points per game,” Ryan Ward wrote.

Thybulle is not going to give Los Angeles much when it comes to what he does on the offensive side of the basketball. He's someone who has proven he can score from three-point range at times, shooting 43.8% in 2024-2025 and 39.8% in 2025-2026.

However, he only played in 45 games over those two seasons, so we don't really have a large enough sample size.

Still, I think he'd be a decent option for the Lakers to give a chance to, as there are far worse options out there.
