The LA Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves crossed swords at the Target Center on Wednesday. It was the second meeting between the two Western Conference giants, with the Purple and Gold winning the previous encounter. Both teams arrived for the game with an identical record (2-2).
In terms of the starting lineups, the Lakers began with Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, Jake LaRavia and Deandre Ayton. On the contrary, the Timberwolves countered with a starting five comprising Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, Mike Conley and Rob Dillingham.
The Timberwolves were on a heater from beyond the arc and knocked down six of their first seven 3-point attempts. The red-hot shooting helped them jump to an early 25-16 lead. The Lakers showed great resilience and hung tough despite Minnesota's lights-out early shooting.
Austin Reaves' playmaking proved decisive as the Lakers closed the quarter with a 9-2 run. Dalton Knecht added seven points off the bench and ensured the Lakers only trailed by two points heading into the second quarter.
