Kyle Schwarber's 40th HR joins Ryan Howard in rare Phillies history

The Philadelphia Phillies have had one of baseball's best power hitters dominating at the top of their lineup since 2022, as Kyle Schwarber has been on a tear for the Phillies since coming to the team.

After four great seasons through 2025, Schwarber is having another strong year in 2026, putting up some elite numbers once again. During the Phillies' game against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, August 26, he hit his 40th home run of the season.

As Paul Casella of MLB.com noted, that 40th homer made some Phillies franchise history for Schwarber, as he joined only Ryan Howard in franchise history as the only players to accomplish a 40-homer season or better four times.

"Schwarber's four 40-homer seasons are tied with Phillies legend Ryan Howard for the most in franchise history," Casella writes. "Howard accomplished this feat in four straight seasons from 2006-09."

Howard hit 382 homers in his career hitting 58 in 2006, followed by 47, 48, and 45 homers over the next three seasons for the only times during his career where he hit at least 40 homers.

Schwarber, after hitting his 40th in Wednesday's win over the Mariners, has accomplished this feat in four of the five seasons he's been with the Phillies since 2022.

He had 46 homers in his first season with the Phillies, followed by 47 in 2023, and then a down year with a still impressive 38 homers in 2024.

Then in 2025, Schwarber clobbered 56 homers, leading the NL for the second time since joining the Phillies, and also made for a career-high for Schwarber.

Now in 2026, he's hit his 40th before August has ended, joining Howard as the only sluggers in Phillies' franchise history to hit 40-plus homers in at least four seasons.

Schwarber has been one of the best signings in Phillies history, and this rare 40-homer feat is just another reason why the designated hitter has become beloved by the fanbase since he signed in 2022.
