Kristaps Porzingis returning to Knicks seems possible after Celtics star’s postgame announcement

Kristaps Porzingis will be heavily involved in offseason Celtics trade rumors.

He just provided some fodder for the rumor mill with his comments about the Knicks and their fans after Boston's season-ending loss on Friday night.

Here's what Porzingis had to say after the Knicks clobbered the Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semis:

"The support from the Knicks fans was through the roof tonight and all throughout the playoffs. Unbelievable fans, unbelievable city, and there's a side of me that's very, very happy, that's very happy for them. I wish them nothing the best. They're class players that we played against and they've done great things and I wish them nothing but success."

Porzingis struggled through a rough series, dealing with an illness that he said postgame he still isn't sure what it is.

That didn't help the Celtics, but it wasn't his fault they didn't defend their title. The reality is Boston didn't make enough shots, and then dealt with the devastating Jayson Tatum injury, they didn't have the firepower to rattle off three wins in a row to come back from a series deficit.

Porzingis has one year remaining on his contract at just more than $30 million.

The Knicks don't have an obvious opening in their starting lineup, but depending on how their season ends, they could always decide to shake things up.

Porzingis is still a dangerous NBA player when healthy. He just hasn't been healthy as much as would be ideal.

Whether or not he's still in Boston next season is something basketball fans will spend much of the summer wondering about.
