Knicks trade proposal solves Lakers' big man problems, lands key role players in New York

The New York Knicks have already had an eventful offseason, but it could get even crazier.

Since losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, all of the news surrounding the Knicks has been about their odd coaching search. While the Knicks have already made the decision to make a significant change to their coaching staff, they could soon be making some big moves with their roster, too.

The Knicks certainly have built a solid roster in recent years, as evidenced by their best stretch in over two decades. However, the team is set on competing for a championship, and it might need to make some moves to take that next step.

Recently, Hawks on SI’s Jackson Caudell pitched a hypothetical trade that could solve some of New York’s problems. His trade sent Mitchell Robinson, Terance Mann, Pacome Dadiet and two Hawks second-round picks to the Lakers, Jarred Vanderbilt to the Hawks and Gabe Vincent and Dalton Knecht to the Knicks.

While Robinson’s incredible impact in the playoffs might make that trade seem ridiculous, there is some value for the Knicks. Vincent could give the team another reliable, playoff-proven guard alongside a young shooter in Knecht.

Meanwhile, the Knicks would also no longer have to worry about Robinson’s availability, which has been spotty at best in recent years. After playing only 48 regular season games in the past two seasons combined, it’s difficult to rely on Robinson as such a big part of the team.

Considering the Lakers’ likely desperation for a big man, the Knicks might even be able to milk a bit more out of Rob Pelinka if a deal were to go down this offseason.
