Sophie Cunningham understood the assignment.
This may be just her first season with the Indiana Fever as a teammate of superstar Caitlin Clark. But Cunningham didn't need an invitation to stand up for the Fever's leader.
After Clark, Jacy Sheldon and Marina Mabry got into it earlier on Tuesday night, Cunningham had an opportunity to serve as the enforcer.
With Sheldon on a fastbreak in front of her, Cunningham broke out her best form tackle to bring down the Connecticut Sun guard.

— Clark Report (@CClarkReport) June 18, 2025Cunningham received a Flagrant 2 foul, resulting in an automatic ejection. Sheldon got her second technical, so she was gone, too. And Lindsay Allen's technical foul in the dustup afterward was enough to get her tossed, as well.
It's gotta be a cool sight to see for the Fever and their fans.
They knew Cunningham was a good role player to bring on board.
Cunningham has also developed into a great friend for a number of the Fever players, including Clark.
And now she's proven that she has their back. If things get heated, Cunningham has no problem getting right into the middle of it.
