The New York Knicks opened their season on Tuesday with a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, and at times, it wasn’t pretty. However, they still believe they have the pieces to make another run when the time comes.
Still, the Knicks are looking to add to their roster and put themselves in an even better position. On Thursday, it was reported that New York had interest in former Los Angeles Lakers forward Dalton Knecht.
“Knicks are among the teams with interest in former Laker Dalton Knecht, per league sources familiar with Knecht's market. Knecht was waived prior to regular season. He's eligible to sign a two-way deal. The Stein Line said earlier MIN had interest in Knecht," SNY's Ian Begley posted.
Knecht is a sharpshooter, and it seems like the Lakers gave up on him too early. On Friday morning, the Knicks signed him to a two-way deal.
“Former Lakers forward Dalton Knecht has agreed to sign with the New York Knicks on a two-way NBA contract, his agents at Excel Sports Management tell ESPN,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.
This is a good decision for Knecht, as he joins the defending NBA champions and has a chance to carve out a role. It turns out New York was aggressive in pursuing him once he cleared waivers.
“Knicks were aggressive on Dalton Knecht once he cleared waivers following Lakers release. Club is clearly betting on the 25-year-old’s upside/potential,” Begley wrote.
If the former Tennessee Volunteer can rediscover his shooting touch, he could make a difference for the team. That shooting ability is still there, and a change of scenery could give Knecht renewed confidence.
This might very well be a difference making move for New York that is going to help them tremendously as the season goes on. After sitting on the bench for the last year, Knecht is ready to prove himself.
