The New York Knicks are among the franchises floated as potential landing spots for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The dynamic Milwaukee Bucks superstar is getting real about his NBA future, and with Milwaukee failing to make positive strides since their 2021 championship run, he isn’t 100% sure he wants to continue competing with the franchise.
Considering Antetokounmpo has previously expressed interest in joining the Knicks and New York has the assets to pull off a blockbuster trade, it makes sense that the two parties have been linked.
According to the Athletic's Sam Amick, the Knicks have made their stance clear on potentially acquiring the NBA champion forward this season.
"And then there’s the one team that Antetokounmpo showed a desire to play for last summer — the New York Knicks,” Amick wrote Sunday. “Until further notice, the recently-crowned NBA Cup champions are fully invested in their current crop of title-contending talent.”
In other words, the Knicks believe they have a solid enough foundation/core to flourish without Antetokounmpo in the fold.
The franchise’s recent success (Eastern Conference Finals appearance and NBA Cup title) suggests that New York has the potential to go the distance with its current roster.
With the Knicks possessing a much-improved bench (Jordan Clarkson and Tyler Kolek have been positive additions thus far), and a formidable starting five (Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns), the sky is truly the limit.
