Karl-Anthony Towns spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he’ll be making his second trip as a visitor on Tuesday.
Now in his second season with the New York Knicks, Towns and the team will match up with the Timberwolves on Tuesday. Towns averaged 22.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while making four All-Star appearances with the Timberwolves.
Ahead of his homecoming, Towns spoke with Jared Schwartz of the New York Post about what it means to return back to Minnesota.
“Obviously you can be at peace with it, but it still stings when you’re not walking into this locker room. Come to this amazing state, this city and realize you’re not going to the training facility anymore, you’re not making that drive in, you’re not doing all that. Now you’re in a hotel, it hits different,” Towns said. “I know we’ve done a lot of amazing things in the last 12 months in New York, but I had nine years here.”
Towns is looking to bounce back after a rough 2-point performance against the Miami Heat, only the second time in his career he scored just two points in a game.
While he has plenty of love for the Timberwolves, Towns will look to lead the Knicks to a statement victory over his former ballclub. Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby have already been ruled out for the contest, so one can expect Towns to be featured heavily in the offense for the Knicks.
