We saw the debut of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens after fellow signal-caller Dillon Gabriel exited early because of injury.
Gabriel sustained a concussion in the first half that forced his early exit from the contest, which opened the door for Sanders to get his first regular season snaps.
Unfortunately, things didn't go well for Sanders, who completed just 4-of-16 passes for 47 yards and one interception in the 23-16 loss to Baltimore. Sanders rushed for 16 yards on three carries as well.
Sanders had an opportunity late in the fourth quarter to lead the Browns on a game-tying drive, but Cleveland was stopped in Ravens territory after driving 40 yards.
As you'd expect, head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about who would start next week against the Las Vegas Raiders and Stefanski revealed it would be Gabriel, assuming he is healthy enough to play.
"Browns' Kevin Stefanski said Dillon Gabriel will be back as the starter once he clears the concussion protocol but acknowledges a lot has to happen," Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported.
Of course, concussions are always tricky, so there's absolutely no guarantee that Gabriel will be able to clear the protocol in time, so there remains a chance that Sanders will start in Week 12.
While it doesn't look like it'll happen, the Browns should at least consider giving Sanders the ball over Gabriel, even if he's healthy.
Gabriel continues to post lackluster performances after he completed 7-of-10 passes for 68 yards in Week 11, and the Browns are now 1-5 since he took over as the starter.
Granted, Sanders did not look good on Sunday, but he should be given more than one half to see if he can possibly be the guy.
We'll get our next injury update on Gabriel on Wednesday, when the Browns drop their first injury report of the week.
