It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers have to address the quarterback position over the offseason, whether that means bringing back Aaron Rodgers, or finding a new face.
The Steelers will likely also need to address the running back position. Veteran back Kenny Gainwell is headed for free agency after a solid single season in Pittsburgh in which he was named team MVP.
Washington running back Jonah Coleman named dream draft target for Steelers
Gainwell’s [potential] departure would leave Jaylen Warren needing some support in the backfield. Perhaps Pittsburgh could find that in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Washington running back Jonah Coleman was recently named the dream draft target for the Steelers. this year by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report.
Coleman ran for 758 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior in 2025. He also caught 31 passes for 354 yards and two more touchdowns. That dual-threat nature could make Coleman especially appealing to NFL teams, like the Steelers.
"How the Steelers address the quarterback position will be the offseason's biggest story in Pittsburgh. But with Kenneth Gainwell slated for free agency after a career year, the Steelers could also be looking to add depth at the running back spot," Davenport wrote.
"Washington running back Jonah Coleman would be an interesting target in the second half of Day 2. Coleman doesn't have blazing speed, but the 5'9" 228-pounder is a physical downhill runner who topped 1,000 rushing yards in 2024 and averaged a robust 5.5 yards per carry over his time with the Huskies."
Having a reliable ground game will be important for the Steelers in 2026, especially if Aaron Rodgers decides to return for one more run.
While Warren is a productive player, banking on him to carry the load alone isn't a sound approach. Thus, expect Pittsburgh to address the backfield over the offseason, either through free agency or the draft, or both.
