Kendrick Perkins-Bill Simmons beef, explained: ESPN, Ringer analysts feud over Raptors season prediction

4 hours ago 1

The NBA offseason is off to a ripping start.

After five significant trades and one day of the NBA Draft, the offseason drama spilled over into the media as Kendrick Perkins and Bill Simmons entered a war of words. Stunningly, the feud had nothing to do with Simmons' beloved Celtics, even though Perkins won a title with the franchise in 2008.

In between the first and second rounds of the draft, Perkins took to X (formerly Twitter) to address Simmons, saying, "Ill (sic) address your ass @BillSimmons on Sunday my Guy," along with a 2:38 video.

What gives? Here is what to know about the back-and-forth between the two media personalities and how it somehow stems from a different team in the NBA's Atlantic Division.

Kendrick Perkins-Bill Simmons beef, explained

Thursday, Perkins addressed Simmons by letting him and social media know he would address him on Sunday.

"Thinking about Bill Simmons cupcake ass — always got my name in his mouth, but I'm going to address you Sunday," Perkins began, before adding that he's going to "get on [Simmons'] ass like back pockets" during a solo edition of Sunday's "Road Trippin'" podcast.

"I don't know who anointed you the preacher or King or the head honcho of overseeing basketball and the way things need to be. Man, what have you done?" Perkins asked, before citing Simmons' basketball career, or lack thereof.

The one-time champion went on to explain that this is his last straw, because of Simmons' ridicule of Perkins' suggestion that the Raptors could be one of the Eastern Conference's top six seeds in 2025-26.

During his post-draft podcast, Simmons said, "[The Raptors] took Collin Murray-Boyles, and Perk said they have the pieces and they're a top-six team in the East. At that point, I started looking for a third ESPN channel, but there are only two covering the draft. There wasn't a third one, at least that I could find."

That criticism rubbed Perkins the wrong way.

"That wasn't a crazy take or anything to that nature. It's a real thing, fool!" Perkins said. He outlined the landscape of the Eastern Conference, writing off the Pacers and Celtics, both of whom will likely be without their stars next season due to Achilles injuries.

"The only teams that I'm thinking about right now is the Cavs, right? The Orlando Magic, the Detroit Pistons, going to be back and the New York Knicks — that's four teams!"

Perkins called Toronto's Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram All-Star caliber wings and insinuated that RJ Barrett is a fringe All-Star, as well. Perkins closed his statement with a few more shots for good measure.

"You didn't think before you started drinking them Heinekens, and then you got your little peanut gallery up on the podcast, who just agree— 'Yeah, Bill, yeah. Bill, yeah, you're right. Stand up! Stand up!" Perkins said, mocking Simmons' co-hosts and fellow Ringer podcasters Joe House and J. Kyle Mann. "Man, shut the hell up!"

For good measure, Perkins assured he would do research on Simmons before Sunday's solo podcast, likely to prepare himself to take a few more digs.
