The Toronto Maple Leafs’ recent struggles continued Saturday night as they fell 5-3 to the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena and extended their skid to back-to-back losses on the road.

Toronto showed early push but once again failed to sustain it. After trading goals through the first two periods, Nashville took control in the third by scoring three times including two late empty-net goals to put the game away.

The defeat came one night after the Leafs were shut out 4-0 at home by the Washington Capitals.

Meanwhile, frustration among the fanbase has grown increasingly vocal. Following Saturday’s defeat fans on X directed their anger at the team and organization’s direction.

“Keep losing so we fire everyone,” wrote one user.

“Hopefully this weekend is the last I see of Reilly Berube and Treliving,” commented another.

@MapleLeafs @LGCanada They can’t compete a clean pass, they get outshot, outplayed, out scored by the last team in the league. What is the solution?

Some called for sweeping changes behind the bench and in the front office. Others expressed deeper concerns about the roster’s construction arguing that surface-level adjustments will not be enough.

“Until they make structural and dramatic changes to the roster, nothing will change with this team. You can change the coach. You can change the GM. You can change the players around them, but you can't change the spots on the leopard,” one fan commented.

@MapleLeafs @LGCanada Off-season the management did nothing to get better while other team improved That's just the reality.

Toronto pushed late on the night with Bobby McMann pulling the Leafs within one, but never found an equalizer. Joseph Woll made several key stops to keep Toronto close though the Leafs were again outshot and spent extended stretches defending in their own zone.

Ex-NHLer claims Leafs’ struggles aren't Craig Berube’s fault

Earlier this week, former NHL enforcer Jay Rosehill publicly pushed back against growing calls for the Toronto Maple Leafs to part ways with head coach Craig Berube, forcefully defending the coach as pressure mounts during a frustrating 2025-26 season.

Rosehill, who played under Berube during the coach’s tenure with the Philadelphia Flyers organization in 2013-14, made it clear he believes blaming the coach misses the real issue.

Drawing on his experience playing for a wide range of NHL coaches, Rosehill argued that even truly toxic coaching environments rarely result in complete effort collapse from players. In his view, Berube does not fit that description at all.

“I’ve played for Craig Berube. He’s none of those things,” Rosehill said. “He’s straightforward. He’s honest. He’s not crazy negative. He’s not flipping tables and screaming in guys’ faces.”

Rosehill insisted that the idea of Berube being dismissed would be a serious organizational mistake.

“I think these next 24 hours are going to be.. something’s got to happen here,” he said. “And it’s probably going to be Craig Berube fired. And I think it’s a f***ing disgrace.”

The former NHLer shared that Berube gives skilled players freedom to create offensively without micromanaging. He characterized Berube as a coach who trusts his players and keeps his approach consistent.

Rosehill also suggested the bigger issue lies with execution and buy-in rather than coaching and noted that it is the coaches in Toronto who often take the blame when results do not meet expectations.
