Since entering the league as the top pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, Karl-Anthony Towns has been a special type of player. He was the star for the Minnesota Timberwolves for a long while until Anthony Edwards eventually took over in 2020.
Over the past decade, Towns has built a legacy for himself as one of the best offensive big men of his era. However, his three-point shooting might be his greatest strength because he has made it a major part of his game.
Karl-Anthony Towns loves when he's called the best three-point shooting big man
Now that he's with the New York Knicks, Towns' game has expanded quite significantly over the past two seasons. He still possesses his special offensive game with his three-point shooting alongside his post game.
Aside from that, he has also become a high-level playmaker in the 2026 Playoffs. He has become an offensive hub under head coach Mike Brown, which is helping them be the favorites for the championship over the San Antonio Spurs.

Across NBA history, there have been many big men who can shoot at an elite level. Dirk Nowitzki immediately comes to mind, but he might not be as reliable and deadly as Towns. That is a huge compliment to receive, and Towns loves every second of it.
"It's an honor. I worked on my game. When I was younger, that wasn't something that was supposed to happen. You're laughed at. You're told, What are you doing? You're wasting your time," Towns said about his history as a shooter while being a big man.
"People come back to me and give me all the congrats and congratulations and all this love for something they didn't help with; they told me to do the opposite. So that's how life always goes."
It has been an interesting 2026 Playoffs for Towns. In the past, there was a narrative that he was a "soft" player and that he shot too many threes. Now, he is turning the narrative around because he is getting a lot of fanfare.
This is good for Towns' overall legacy because he has been constantly disrespected for a long time. Now, he is getting the love, and that probably feels great for an oft-criticized player like him.
