The Kansas City Chiefs have an injury concern with running back Kareem Hunt ahead of their Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed that Hunt is dealing with a bone bruise in his knee and won't practice on Thursday, which now leaves his Week 8 status in question.
"As far as the injuries go, guys who won't go today after Kareem Hunt, who has a bone bruise on his knee," Reid told reporters before practice, according to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest.
The good news for Hunt is that a bone bruise isn't a serious injury, so there's still a chance he plays this week despite the negative start to the week. Adding to that, Hunt has an extra day to get right, as the Chiefs don't play until Monday night.
If Hunt doesn't suit up, Isiah Pacheco will see increased work, as will rookie running back Brashard Smith, who saw a career-high 19 touches last week, although much of that had to do with the Chiefs blowing out the Las Vegas Raiders.
It has been a quiet season for Hunt.
While he has found pay dirt three times, he's also averaging just 29.3 rushing yards per game and 3.9 yards per carry. A lot of that has to do with lackluster blocking upfront, as the Chiefs rank 24th in run-block win rate.
We've seen differing reports about the team's interest in possibly adding a running back given their lackluster production from the position this season.
While that remains possible and would be bad news for all of the Chiefs' backs, adding a running back won't solve the run-blocking issues upfront.
