Justin Herbert is playing through the pain.
But the Los Angeles Chargers’ superstar quarterback is clearly hurting.
He was brought down from behind during the second quarter of Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Both his legs were trapped beneath him.
He played on but wasn’t moving as well and was clearly hurting.
When Herbert went to the bench, he had both ankles wrapped in heavy tape.
The athletic trainer was shown with Herbert for a while as the NBC broadcast continued to show Herbert on the bench as he also talked to the offensive coaching staff.

Herbert has dealt with ankle injuries in the past, so this isn’t ideal.
The injury play was a concerning look visually, so the Chargers are probably glad that nothing worse happened.
But it’ll be worth monitoring Herbert’s movement the rest of the game. He may not quite be at full strength.
For what it’s worth, his backup is Trey Lance, the former 49ers draft pick.
