The New York Jets have endured one underwhelming season after another for a long time, and unfortunately, this season has not been any different.
Question marks at the quarterback position have been primarily responsible for the disappointing results of many draft prospects and veteran passers; some have proven to lack talent, while others have flourished in other systems.
Current Jets quarterback, Justin Fields, was under the same light with the Chicago Bears. After not having much success with the team, it began to be questioned whether Fields can be a good leader of the offense or if he is in the right situation to start with.
Eventually the Bears, decided to move on Fields and drafted Caleb Williams with the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft and even though the first season of the Williams era did not end well, with a first year head coach in Ben Johnson, Chicago is now playoff bound and have the opportunity to win the NFC North division and potentially the first overall seed.
With that Bears' decision, Fields became a free agent and ultimately signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal, joining a quarterback room that had also just signed All-Pro Russell Wilson, who was also a one-year rental.
Willson won the starting job, and Fields was used primarily in the wildcat formation, with few passing plays drawn up for him, which has led him to the New York Jets. Now, after a disappointing season, the organization has benched the young quarterback multiple times.
This has not placed Fields in yet another tough spot and has people questioning once again what the future looks like with his current team.
Fields answered that question on Friday, but his answer may seem either concerning or valid, depending on how you feel about him.
"I don't know what I'm going to eat for dinner tonight, so I can't even worry about what's going to happen until after the season. We'll just see and take it day by day." Fields said, quoted by New York Jets beat writer Dennis Waszak Jr.
Who truly knows how things will turn out between the two parties, but with an answer like that, the chances of Fields remaining with the team may not look good.
