Jets coach Aaron Glenn sounds like he is ready to consider making a quarterback change.
“You know what? I’m evaluating everything, to be honest with you,” Glenn said when asked if he would consider benching Justin Fields for the Jets’ next game against the Ravens on Nov. 23.
Glenn stopped short of addressing the quarterback decision directly, but he was not as defiant as he has been when asked about benching Fields before.
He bristled at the idea a month ago after a loss to the Broncos in London.
He then benched Fields at halftime against the Panthers a week later, replacing him with backup Tyrod Taylor.
Since then, Glenn has played coy and said he would not address who the starting quarterback was going to be before the Jets played the Bengals, Browns and this week against the Ravens.
Fields has had two straight poor passing performances after a strong one in Cincinnati.
Justin Fields of the New York Jets runs the ball during the first quarter. Charles Wenzelberg for The New York PostHe threw for 116 yards and a touchdown in the 27-14 loss to the Patriots on Thursday after throwing for just 54 yards last week against the Browns.
“Not good enough,” Fields said after the loss Thursday.
The Jets are averaging a league-worst 139.9 passing yards per game.
“Obviously, we got to do a better job in the passing game, and that has a lot to do with Justin getting the ball to the right guys, and also the guys, when they do get a chance to get the ball, that they make those plays,” Glenn said.
Newly acquired wide receiver Adonai Mitchell had two critical drops, which did not help Fields.
But there were other throws Fields missed, something that has been a pattern all year.

“There were some open guys that we missed in that situation, too, and he would tell you that,” Glenn said.
The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in the offseason.
He has $10 million guaranteed coming to him in 2026, but it appears the Jets are going to draft a quarterback and Fields may not even stick as the backup.
Aaron Glenn of the New York Jets reacts on the sideline during the fourth quarter. The New England Patriots defeat the New York Jets. Charles Wenzelberg for The New York PostGlenn was asked if he might make the move to Taylor to provide a “spark.”
“I think you hear that quite a bit when you get these quarterback changes is, ‘Man, I’m trying to get a spark for the team.’ But to me, it’s more or less, ‘Man, I’m trying to make the best decision to give our guys a chance to win,’ because to me a spark is really a short-term deal,” Glenn said. “I want to make a decision to give us a chance to win, and whatever that evaluation process comes out to, just know that the reason why I make decisions that I make is because it gives us the best chance to win.”
Glenn was not just upset with the passing game against the Patriots.

“When it comes to this game, this is probably the first time I really verbalized to you guys that I was frustrated at the loss of this game,” Glenn said. “I’m frustrated on every loss, all right, but this one was really frustrating, the fact that we had an opportunity to show the world exactly how we’ve grown as a team in all three phases, and man, the one thing that we didn’t do well is our execution wasn’t as high as I wanted it to be.”
Glenn said the defense had communication issues, which led to some big passes by Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
The Jets set a record by having only one takeaway through 10 games.
That is the fewest in NFL history.
Amazingly, they have zero interceptions.
That ties a record for futility to start a season.
“It’s tough. To have one takeaway at this point in the season, it’s tough to even imagine that because you have tipped balls, you have things like that, that you usually get interceptions on,” Glenn said. “I don’t know if it’s bad luck. I don’t know. I can’t finger point that or put my hands on that, but that’s something that we’ve got to do a better job.”
