A virtual appearance by the National League MVP finalists Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto and Kyle Schwarber unexpectedly turned into a social-media roasting session after fans zeroed in on how each player looked on camera.
The short MLB video circulated widely ahead of the award announcement and quickly drew comparisons ranging from “college brochure” material to holiday-season chaos.

Ohtani, Soto, and Schwarber were taking part in the league’s standard finalist media call, a format MLB has used since 2020. While the focus was meant to be on the upcoming MVP reveal, which Ohtani ultimately won unanimously, fans instead fixated on the trio’s contrasting on-screen aesthetics.

“Winning the World Series is first and foremost” - Shohei Ohtani’s MVP praise framed by history-making achievement
Shohei Ohtani made more history this week, becoming the first player in MLB history to win multiple unanimous MVP Awards and the first since Barry Bonds to claim the honor three straight times.
But when asked about the achievement, the Dodgers superstar was quick to shift the focus back to the championship Los Angeles secured last month.
Speaking through an interpreter, Ohtani said the MVP was “icing on the cake,” adding that the World Series title carried far more weight for him.
“The biggest thing is obviously being able to win the World Series. That’s first and foremost,” Ohtani said. “Being crowned MVP is great, but I really appreciate all the support from my teammates, everybody around me, and the staff.”Ohtani’s historic 2025 season dominant at the plate and impactful on the mound in his return from injury made him an overwhelming favorite for the award. His unanimous selection places him in a category all his own, surpassing even past legends in voting history.
Ohtani emphasized that team success mattered most, a sentiment that resonated around the league as the Dodgers’ championship run capped another remarkable chapter for baseball’s most unique talent.
