College football podcaster and CBS Sports analyst Josh Pate is all aboard the Indiana Hoosiers' hype train as they are just weeks away from beginning their playoff journey.
Pate would be unsurprised if the Hoosiers won it all, especially considering the Big Ten's dominance all season spearheaded by Indiana's upset win against Ohio State in the Big Ten title game.
"If he does get to the national title and especially if he wins it, I think the collateral damage that does on the impact it has on other coaches would be a disaster for other coaches," Pate said.
Those other coaches reside in the SEC, making it an even more heightened scenario.
"The attention span and the patience windows would evaporate," Pate said. "And if that guy just won a national championship in his second year at Indiana, there will never be an excuse for Jon Sumrall not to immediately do it at Florida, for Lane Kiffin not to immediately do it."
If anything, though, it shows how much the old guard in college football is no more.
"Kirby [Smart], it's been two or three years. What's wrong with you? That would be a persistent attitude across the country," Pate said.
Come next year, we'll see how right Pate is. But it seems obvious the talk of college football, at least right now, is in Bloomington.
