Jose Altuve clubs milestone homerun at Yankee Stadium Sunday

It was a milestone home run for Jose Altuve in the first inning on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. With two outs in the inning, Altuve clubbed a home run to left field off lefthander Max Fried of the New York Yankees.

The 35-year-old has been with the Houston Astros his entire career. He came into the weekend series with 2,354 hits in his career, and was 127 runs batted in shy of 1,000.

The Venezuela native was signed in the amateur draft in 2007, and he later made his Major League Baseball debut in 2011.

Altuve is the shortest active MLB player, standing at just 5-foot-6 and weighing 166 pounds.

He has been named to the American League All-Star team nine times in his career, won two World Series titles, and was named the American League MVP in 2017. Altuve was also awarded a Gold Glove during the 2015 season and won three batting titles.

Houston came into the game on Sunday just 1/2 game ahead of the Seattle Mariners in the American League West. The Texas Rangers started just 5.5 games back in a competitive divisional race.
