Simone Biles opens up about dealing with online hate

Last month, Simone Biles discussed facing negative comments on social media during the early years of her career. The gymnast spoke at the Buenos Aires City Government Headquarters, where she gave a motivational talk titled “The Power of Believing.”

During her speech, Bile shared personal experiences and insights to inspire others.

“So whenever I was first starting out in like 2012 and 2013, Instagram was becoming more and more popular. And so we were gaining so many followers overnight from World Championships to Olympic Games. And that was really, really tough to see because, again, there was a lot of positive, but there was a lot of negative." "And as much as the positives are so nice to hear at such a young age, and we're going through puberty and all of these things, that one bad comment can really, really get you down. And I remember seeing lots of them,” Biles said in the video. [24:46]

Biles also said negative comments on social media once made her and her parents very sad. In the beginning, she often replied to critics on Twitter, but later realised it was better to ignore them, understanding that not everyone could see things from her perspective.
