Jon Moxley became the winner of the Continental Classic and was crowned the new champion at AEW Worlds End 2025. However, on the following edition, he found himself confronted by two WWE legends.
The aforementioned stars in question are MVP and Shelton Benjamin. On the recent episode of Dynamite: New Year's Smash, Jon Moxley squared off against The Don Callis Family member, Josh Alexander, in an AEW Continental Championship Eliminator match. It was a huge opportunity for the former TNA superstar to earn a future title shot against The Purveyor of Violence.
Both stars locked horns and began delivering hard-hitting moves on each other. The match began to pick up momentum as Alexander attempted to assert dominance; however, Moxley held his own, countering his in-ring acumen and strength with his own arsenal of moves.
The action began to spill all over the ringside area, and it looked like an evenly matched showdown. Following the first ten minutes of the bout, Moxley and Alexander began to exchange blows and hard-hitting moves inside the squared circle. However, the Death Riders' leader had the upperhand on the Walking Weapon as fifteen minutes elapsed.
He began landing hard, thrusting punches on Alexander, leading to him being covered in blood, and even his headgear coming off. The former AEW World Champion finished off his opponent with the bulldog choke and made him submit to score the victory.
As the match came to a close, Jon Moxley began to pose with his Continental Championship in the ring. At that moment, he was confronted by Hurt Syndicate members MVP and Shelton Benjamin, who appeared on the entrance ramp, in a shocking moment, as they had hardly crossed paths in AEW. Both sides exchanged a glance before the former WWE Champion chose to leave the scene through the crowd.
Interestingly, MVP was seen whispering something in Benjamin's ear as Jon Moxley was leaving. So, it will be interesting to see if the faction might come after his title in the near future.
