John Cena is now a retired WWE star. The 17-time World Champion had his last match at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13.
Cena put up a valiant effort against Gunther in his final match. He withstood the initial punishment from the Ring General and fought back dramatically. After a couple of Attitude Adjustments, it looked like the Cenation Leader would walk out with the win. However, the former World Champion slapped John in a vicious Sleeper hold, forcing the legend to tap out.
After his retirement, Cena made a recent appearance on Cody Rhodes' What Do You Want to Talk About podcast. The 48-year-old star spoke about his retirement tour and even shared some interesting stories from his time on the road. After the show aired on YouTube, Cena took to Twitter to thank Cody for the opportunity to tell his story. He felt this was the perfect platform for his first post-retirement interview. John felt the opinion aired on the podcast would lead to some polarizing discussions, and he was excited to hear fans' thoughts.
"Honored that the first public words I have since retiring is with someone I love and respect. Thank you CodyRhodes and WWE for a conversation that’s sure to spark polarizing conversation. I’d have it not other way. Hope you enjoy the listen and can’t wait to hear 'the noise.' "Cody Rhodes was emotional after John Cena retired
The WWE Undisputed Champion was in the arena when John Cena retired. In fact, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk put their titles on the star's shoulders one last time as a mark of respect.
Cody was also at ringside for a long time after Cena felt his shoes and armbands in the ring. The star was overwhelmed with emotions after the legendary star retired.
He even spoke to WWE correspondent Jackie Redmond and detailed how John Cena's retirement felt huge. He noted that the 17-time World Champion had done everything by the book and had such a big influence on the business.
