Team India beat South Africa by 30 runs in the fifth T20I on Friday, December 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As a result, they won the five-match series by a 3-1 margin.

The hosts batted first in the series final after losing the toss and notched up a daunting total of 231 for five in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya (63) and Tilak Varma (73) stepped up with blistering half-centuries, while Sanju Samson (37) and Abhishek Sharma (34) played supporting roles in the batting department. Right-arm pacer Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets for the Proteas with the ball but conceded 44 runs in his three-over spell.

"230 was always going to require a near-perfect chase" - Aiden Markram after South Africa's loss vs India in 5th T20I

At the post-match presentation ceremony, South Africa captain Aiden Markram opened up that it was a tough loss for them, and a chase of around 230 required a collective effort from their batting unit. Reflecting on the defeat, he said:

"Tough loss. 230 was always going to require a near-perfect chase. Quinny (de Kock) and top-3 set it up perfectly for us but in the middle just could not take the momentum to forward. Lessons to learn again as a group and with us playing a few games here in the World Cup, those lessons should be valuable. We want to expose Brevis to spin, he makes six-hitting against spin look quite easy. In the middle order, there is generally not too much of an order and that is exactly what we did today."

Markram continued:

"Some valuable lessons that we've learned in the last two weeks against a really good opposition that played really well, you doff your caps towards them and look internally. It was a little bit of experimenting happening this series, combinations and certain positions for certain players. We've got the answers now and come the World Cup it will be much more settled."
