WWE legend John Cena officially retired from his professional wrestling career as he competed in his final match at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII against Gunther. The Cenation Leader lost his retirement bout against The Ring General as he tapped out to the Austrian star's signature sleeper hold.

Recently, three WWE Superstars with 76 championship wins together, R-Truth, Sami Zayn, and Shinsuke Nakamura, gave tribute to the Cenation Leader as they performed his signature five-knuckle shuffle on El Grande Americano and his crew during a live show. The Chain Gang Soldier reacted to the tribute in his own way by simply posting the picture of a wholesome moment on his official Instagram account.

Cena's retirement was celebrated as a festival by the fans. Not only professional wrestling fans but also mainstream fans celebrated John's iconic career. The entire social media was filled with the Cenation Leader's retirement posts, showcasing how big the Chain Gang Soldier's fanbase is and what he has earned being a lifelong entertainer.

John Cena put two rising WWE Superstars over

Former Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena had a perfect outing as he was on a retirement tour the entire year before hanging up his boots and signature bands in the ring, competing in a final contest.

During his retirement tour, the Cenation Leader put multiple young rising prospects over, especially in his last two matches. He locked horns with Dominik Mysterio at his final premium live event, Survivor Series: WarGames 2025, and put "Dirty" Dom over by losing to him. Cena even played a crucial role in Liv Morgan's return to World Wrestling Entertainment from her injury and reunion with her kayfabe boyfriend in fashion.

Finally, in his retirement bout, he put the former World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, over by losing to him by tapping out to his sleeper hold, going against his own gimmick of "Never Give Up," which marked a perfect passing of the torch moment.
