The New York Jets did not come away with a quarterback over their seven picks in the 2025 NFL draft, but the team did reportedly add one in the aftermath.
That quarterback is former Missouri signal-caller Brady Cook, who has agreed to terms on an undrafted free agent deal with the Jets, per Mizzou Football.
Cook is no doubt a promising prospect with his impressive skill set that offers plenty of arm talent and athleticism. He also has the kind of size (6-foot-2, 214 pounds) teams want in a quarterback.
He's going to need plenty of development and is up against it when it comes to making the roster with the Jets already having a crowded quarterbacks situation thanks to Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, Adrian Martinez and Jordan Travis, who is expected to be ready for 2025.
But the potential is certainly there for Cook to make some noise and maybe even grab a roster or practice squad spot over both Travis and Martinez.
Chad Reuter of NFL.com agrees with the idea that Cook could leave his mark in 2025, as he ranked the Missouri product as his No. 3 UDFA.
The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler pointed out Cook's "intriguing" traits but rightly notes that he's going to need time to develop. Fowler did put a Day 3 grade on Cook, so the Jets may be getting good value here.
Brady Cook is a gifted athlete at the quarterback position with NFL size, arm talent, and athleticism that showcase one of the class’ most intriguing developmental projects at the position.
Overall, Cook’s success in the NFL will hinge on his ability to speed up his processing, refine his deep ball accuracy, and maintain consistency under duress. His skill set is one that teams could view as a reliable option in a quarterback room, but without consistent examples on tape despite the obvious skill set and modern day dual-threat ability (potential for red zone package early in his career), his path to becoming a full-time starter will require continued development.
While the Jets have two quarterback depth chart spots locked up for 2025, there is a possibility they could carry a third signal-caller as a possible future option, and that spot is totally up for grabs.
Martinez, Travis and Cook are all total wild cards and it wouldn't be surprising to see any one of the three take that No. 3 spot if there is one, or the quarterback job on the practice squad.
