Jets might've made a $16 million mistake with signing of ex-Raiders lineman

This offseason, the New York Jets made a ton of roster moves, from their addition of Geno Smith in a trade to their plethora of free agent signings. The Jets reshaped a lot of their roster after a brutal 2025 season.

But not everything saw significant change; the offensive line was one area that stayed roughly the same. There is only one notable change, and it occurred at left guard.

However, ESPN's Bill Barnwell believes that this $16 million signing of a former Las Vegas Raiders guard will be a mistake.

"Worst: Signing Dylan Parham to a two-year, $16 million deal," Barnwell writes. "There's nothing wrong with having trouble against great players, and Parham might improve with better players around him, but his resume probably didn't support a deal that will pay him $8 million this season."

This signing for the Jets was their worst move of the entire offseason. It's a bit hard to believe that this $16 million signing for two years will age so poorly, especially now that he's surrounded by a much better OL than he had in Las Vegas.

Barnwell did call this signing the worst move of the offseason for the Jets, but there is some pushback that he accepted himself on this being the worst move.

With there being other worse offensive line signings around the league, most notably the $49.5 million deal the Cleveland Browns gave to Zion Johnson, the $16 million deal for Parham doesn't look too bad in comparison.

The Jets lost Alijah Vera-Tucker to the New England Patriots and opted to take the chance on Parham. It might not be a bad move, especially if the surrounding offensive line helps him play better.

Olu Fashanu at left tackle, Armand Membou at right tackle, Jake Myers at center, and Joe Tippmann at right guard is a much better offensive line than what he had in Las Vegas.

Parham will get another chance to protect Geno Smith, this time with the Jets. And while Barnwell called this the worst move made by the Jets, if this is the worst move, it's a good indication of how their offseason went well.
