Jets get exciting update on Adonai Mitchell with potential for breakout season

The New York Jets might not have found their quarterback of the future, but it seems like the bulk of their offense has been figured out.

Breece Hall at running back, Mason Taylor and Kenyon Sadiq at tight end, and the strong offensive line are a good starting point. But the Jets also have a surprisingly fun wide receiver room led by Garrett Wilson and Indiana rookie Omar Cooper Jr.

But, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is urging fans not to forget about Adonai Mitchell, as his update for the ex-Indianapolis Colts WR could mean Mitchell is about to have a breakout 2026 season for the Jets.

"Though Garrett Wilson is the clear No. 1 WR and is cooking with quarterback Geno Smith in camp, Adonai Mitchell should not be overlooked," Fowler writes. "The Jets are looking for Mitchell to make a sizeable jump."

This is exactly the kind of update fans are hoping to hear about their young players. Mitchell, who struggled with the Colts during his one-and-a-half seasons after being drafted in the second round, might have found a home with the Jets.

In eight games with the Jets last season, he caught 24 of 58 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in what was easily the best stretch of his NFL career.

He's impressing in camp so far, and as Fowler notes, "He seems to be moving past whatever was holding him back in 1 1/2 seasons with the Colts."

Fowler's update on Mitchell is a fun one, as getting him to turn into a legitimate WR threat in the passing game would be massive for the Jets offense this year and into the future.

He can prove this belief from the Jets that a breakout is real during the preseason and then the regular season, as the Jets are sure to be down in plenty of games and will need to pass the ball a lot this upcoming season.

It could be a big year for Mitchell, and the Jets believe that such a breakout for the third-year WR is very much in play with this update from Fowler.
