Jets activate veteran safety, elevate kicker for must-win matchup

The New York Jets welcome a starting safety back into the fold while relying on a new kicker against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11.

After opening his 21-day practice window earlier this week, the Jets have activated starter Chuck Clark off Injured Reserve on Saturday, one day prior to the November 17 home game versus Indianapolis. Clark has missed the past four games due to a high ankle injury. Creating a spot on the 53-man roster, New York released reserve offensive lineman Alec Lindstrom in a corresponding transaction.

Additionally, the Jets designated kicker Anders Carlson as a Practice Squad elevation. New York, which does not have a kicker on its active roster, will rely on the call-up to handle primary kicking duties on Sunday.

Carlson the Jets' fourth different kicker in four weeks. The 2023 Green Bay Packers' draft pick signed a P-Squad deal with New York nine days ago. He became the next man up when the Kansas City Chiefs claimed Spencer Shrader, who kicked for the Jets in Week 10.

The 26-year-old Carlson, who kicked in two games for the San Francisco 49ers in Weeks 8 and 9, has made all five of his field goal attempts thus far this season. As a rookie, he made 81.8 percent of three-point tries for Green Bay.

Clark's return means the Jets' full starting secondary will be healthy and intact on the field for the first time in more than one month. He started the season's first six games, making at least four tackles in every appearance.

Clark was a full participant at practice all week. Fellow safeties Tony Adams and Ashtyn Davis are no longer on the injury report.

At 3-7 overall, the Jets are in a must-win situation against the Colts (4-6) as both teams hope to work their way back into the AFC Playoffs conversation.
