Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sent a clear message about defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus in the aftermath of the 34-17 loss against the LA Chargers on Sunday. The "Lone Star" didn't have much to do against the Chargers after the Philadelphia Eagles' 29-18 win over the Washington Commanders eliminated the Cowboys from playoff contention.

Speaking with reporters, Jones revealed Eberflus' future with the franchise will be evaluated after the season.

“I might not count it as difficult," Jones said. "(Evaluating him is) certainly something that we have to do. And that is to look at the entire year and look at what our options are, and how to correct it so we’re not here at the same time next year. Now, that's not uncommon to evaluate at this time of the year — your entire coaching staff. And, obviously, the target is on him because of our statistical, as well as actual play on the defensive side of the ball, but that goes with it.”

The Cowboys lost their third consecutive game after going on a three-game winning streak (33-16 against the Raiders in Week 11, 24-21 against the Eagles in Week 12 and 31-28 against the Chiefs in Week 13), allowing the Lions 44 points, the Vikings 34 and the same to the Chargers.

Eberflus' performances have put him in the spotlight since early in the season. Jerry Jones supported the former Chicago Bears head coach during that time, but he disapproved of the team's defensive play against the struggling JJ McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings.

During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones expressed his frustrations about JJ McCarthy playing at a high level against the Cowboys. Opposing defenses averaged 3.5 sacks per game against the young quarterback, while the Cowboys recorded zero in Week 15.

“We let their quarterback have a big day on us,” Jones said. “That wasn’t the plan. We could have used more pressure, without question, at different times. The result was that we let him make some pretty significant plays out there, plus, he played pretty well. "It seems like we’re always saying that about these (opposing) quarterbacks. Some of them hadn’t played as well, but when they play us, they play better. I think that’s telling, too.”

The Cowboys added defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and linebacker Logan Wilson ahead of the trade deadline, but the moves didn't really move the needle.
